Château Charmail 2023 - Magnum

The sun of 2023 caressed Saint-Seurin de Cadourne with warmth and constancy, offering grapes of ideal maturity. This vintage charms with its roundness and velvety texture, revealing vibrant aromas of black fruits, ripe cherry, and a touch of sweet spices. On the palate, the generosity expresses itself with amplitude and elegance, supported by silky tannins and a luminous finish. A solar, harmonious, and deeply charming vintage, to be enjoyed in its youth or left to develop in the cellar.

Lush et Harmonious

  • Appearance : Deep purple robe with intense violet reflections.
  • Nose : Expressive and seductive, with aromas of blackcurrant, black cherry, and raspberry, enhanced by fine notes of spice and a floral touch.
  • Palate : Ample and fresh, supported by a silky texture and fine tannins. The wine reveals flavors of ripe red fruits, violet, and light mineral nuances. Beautiful length, balanced and refined, promising excellent ageing potential.

    « The Cabernet is an important part of Charmail's bouquet. Of course, it works in tandem with the Merlot, giving zest... on the nose as well as the palate. The wine is compact, inviting, and supported by beautiful creamy tannins that add dimension across the whole palate, while the acidic structure enlivens the finish. From the Vine to the Wine

Viticulture

In 2023, the Charmail vines benefited from a luminous and generous season, marked by favorable climatic conditions. The estate continues its progressive conversion to organic farming, with practices such as soil tillage, manual leaf removal, and green harvesting, in order to concentrate the aromas and express the full richness of the clayey gravel terroir.

Harvest

The harvest took place from 18 September to 2 October 2023, under a stable and dry climate that allowed homogeneous grape maturity. The harvest, carried out 100% by hand, made it possible to carefully select the most balanced bunches, thus offering a vibrant fruit of great quality.

Vinification

The vinification was carried out at low temperature, in order to preserve the aromatic freshness and highlight the purity of the grape varieties. The vintage's blend combines the gourmand character and roundness of the Merlot with the elegant structure of the Cabernet Sauvignon. The Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot complete the profile, bringing finesse and aromatic complexity respectively.

Ageing

66% of the production was aged for 12 months in 500-litre barrels, of which 50% new wood, conferring supple tannins and delicate nuances of vanilla and spice. The remaining 33% was aged in 17-hectolitre concrete eggs, promoting a natural micro-oxygenation that brings freshness, fruity brilliance, and energy to the wine.
